What to do if I get a "Your connection is not private" error

When following a library link, you may encounter an error screen like this.

Answer

For immediate access, try these steps:

  1. Open a Chrome Incognito tab and click the "Continue to site" button
  2. Open a Firefox window, click Advanced, click "Accept Risk and Continue" (the black/white button on the right)
  3. In the URL bar, replace the periods (.) with dashes (-) that appear before the word ezproxy2
    • For example: https://www.policymap.com.ezproxy2.library.drexel.edu/newmaps/e/drexel becomes https://www-policymap-com.ezproxy2.library.drexel.edu/newmaps/e/drexel
    • Try copying the new with-dash URL into a new tab or browser
  4. Clear your browser's cache and cookies from all time, close the browser, and reopen and try again
  5. Try a different browser, for example, Firefox, Chrome, Edge
  6. Use Single Sign-On when available

Report the error

  • Include a full screenshot that includes the URL bar at the top of the screen
  • Provide the URL of the page where you found the link
  • Describe the link as much as possible: text, placement, etc.
    • Right-click the link and choose "Copy link as" and paste in your reply

Why am I getting this error?

The link and the site you are directed to are safe. The browser interrupts the connection in the middle of the authentication process, and throws an error on the incorrect URL. Refreshing your environment is the best way to bypass the error; not just hitting "refresh" on your browser, but trying new browsers and URLs.
